My Social Security account

To easily check your social security disability status, you should create a my Social Security account.  This account allows you the flexibility to check many things with regards to your SSA benefits and claims.  Creating an account is fairly straightforward: just provide personal information about yourself and create a username and password.

If you currently do not receive benefits, you can check the status of your application or appeal, get a Social Security Statement in order to review estimates of your future disability benefits and verify the amounts posted from your yearly earnings, and you can also obtain a benefit verification letter which states that you have never received Social Security benefits in the past.

If you currently receive benefits, you can request for a replacement card if you lost your present one, change your address and phone number, or start and change direct deposit of your benefit payment.

Check My Social Security Disability Status

The Social Security Administration has a very specific definition of disability. If you are waiting for your current social security disability status, eligibility is dependent on the strict guidelines determined by SSA which is in turn based on Federal law. You are deemed disabled if it is determined that you cannot participate in any substantial gainful activity due to an impairment in your physical or medical condition.

If your security disability status is still in process, it helps to periodically check it online.  Checking it periodically will inform you what documents may be stalled so that you can properly follow-up with the correct information source. It helps to check your claims at each stage of the application process.

Disability Determination Process

There are five steps in the Disability application process.  It begins with an initial application. If your initial application is approved, then there is no need to go through the next four processes. However, if your claim is denied, you can go to the second step of the process which is Reconsideration of Claim. If you want to check your social security disability status during this stage you can go online or contact the disability examiner who is assigned to your appeal.  When you are appealing for a denied claim, you may go through an appeal hearing before an Administrative Law Judge. Most claims end at this step.  The judge usually makes a ruling for the applicants to receive benefits or stop trying. If you get denied at this stage, you go to step four of the process which is to request for an Appeal Council Review, where applicants are recommended to hire an attorney to represent them.
